Once you get new Cubs to join your pack and you've promised them Archery, BB's, and more fun, here is a good opportunity for your pack to provide those things right away. Don't make them wait until next summer for this fun.
See more information here. Come join the fun and tour The Wildlife Experience at a discounted price.
Boy Scout Nights at DU Basketball and Hockey Games
The University of Denver is hosting special events for all Scouts at the Men's Basketball game on 12/4/10 and at the Men's Hockey game on 1/22/11. Scouts will receive discounted tickets, free T-shirts or patches, and participate in special activities.
See additional information here.
Basic Adult Leader Training Will Be Free Starting August 15, 2010.
In order to get as many adult leaders trained as possible, Basic Adult Leader Training will be offered free of charge starting in mid-August.
As a result, the leader training awards (training knots) will no longer be provided for free after August 31, 2010. You will still be able to get the training knots at the Scout Shop. If you have completed any or your training knots please get your completed training card to Jeff Duer by August 30th so these knots may be presented to you (free) at the September Roundtable. Your completed training cards may be e-mailed or sent to Jeff, but he must receive them by 8/30/10.
2010 Fall Round-up Information
As summer progresses rapidly and the onset of the school year is on the horizon we wanted to inform you of the changes, details, and critical dates for the 2010 Fall Roundup. The entire campaign has been in the planning process for several months, but now it is time to take action.
Different from last year the Denver Area Council is allowing for more flexibility in planning your pack’s two Join Nights. We need your help! The first Join Night should be scheduled to occur by the end of the second full week of school, and the second Join Night by the end of October. Please note, it is critical that every pack in the district conduct two join nights before the end of October. The success of the district is dependant on every pack conducting two join nights!
If you have not already done so, you can request flyers on this form. Please return the form to Jeff Duer.
Many of you have requested a standardized version of what a Join Night should look like. Here is a thorough Power Point Presentation that any pack can use to show new parents what our program is all about. The district has several trained presenters that can come to your pack and deliver this presentation. If you wish to request this assistance please contact Ambrosia Tisdall, Centennial District Membership Chair.
As mentioned before every pack should host their first join night by the end of the second full week of school. This is always the most productive time to hold your join night, and it should be a stand-alone event (not tied into a pack meeting). We strongly recommend that your second join night be a stand alone event, for experience tells us that this is most effective. However, some units have utilized the September or October Pack meeting for this event. All packs should host the second join night prior to the end of October.
Make sure that all your flyers get put into the schools Friday Folders the week before your Join Nights. Use the other promotional material as appropriate. Utilize the posters and yard signs around the schools you serve well in advance to the night of. Plan on conducting Boy Talks at the schools you recruit from the day of or the day before your Join Night, and plan on handing the included promotional stickers out at those Boy Talks. Please let Jeff Duer or Brooke Cantrelle, your Centennial District Executives know if you need help conducting Boy Talks.
This is the most exciting time of the year - the time we welcome new families to Scouting! I hope you share this enthusiasm with us!
Webelos Winter Weekend - December 3rd to 5th
Centennial District's Webelos Winter Weekend will be here before you know it. This great activity for Webelos provides training on the importance of winter survival skills and lots of FUN. See more information.
Registration will begin here in early October.
Unit Leaders - New WEB Feature to Attract Potential Scouts to Your Unit
BSA has developed a new WEB feature called "Be A Scout". It uses Google Maps to help parents of potential new Cubs, Boy Scouts, Venture, and Explorer members to find your unit. With this feature, a parent or potential Scout enters their address and it shows the units near them and information about those units.
To make this work, you need to enter the information about your unit that you wish to present. You may enter special information about your unit, meeting times and address, leader's names, phone numbers, addresses, and e-mail addresses, and other information you wish to show potential new members. You only need to present the information you wish to. Only unit leaders (Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Crew Advisors, Chartered Organization Rep, or Committee Chairman) may enter the information for your unit. Make your unit's information special to attract new Scouts.
Learn how to use BeAScout.org to attract new members to your unit.
BeAScout is now active. Have you created information about your unit yet???
This will help your unit grow.
New Founder's Bar Recognition
In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America, The New-Unit Task Force announces the new Founder's Bar recognition.
The Founder's Bar is worn by all youth and adults whose names are on a new-unit charter or who officially join the new unit before the unit recharters for the first time.
See the attached flier for more information.
