2018 Journey to Excellence (JTE)

Every year BSA provides materials for each unit to assess their past year's performance using the Journey to Excellence.  There are 2 documents to provide guidance and help you calculate your unit score; 1) a PDF information sheet called a "scorecard" and 2) an excel workbook used for the data entry and the "real" results scorecard.

There is a PDF info sheet and excel workbook (2 documents) for Packs, Troops, Crews, and Ships, and Posts.  You need to get both to complete the Unit JTE.

The information sheets are located here - https://www.scouting.org/awards/journey-to-excellence/scorecards/2018-2/.

The excel workbooks for entering your unit data are located here - https://www.scouting.org/awards/journey-to-excellence/tracking-workbooks/2018-2/.

Instructions for how to fill out the JTE and submit:

1) Get and read the PDF information sheet. It is JTE guidance material for your use in understanding what each area/objective is and how to answer the questions associated with it.

2) The excel workbook is where your unit JTE information is recorded. Get and open the excel workbook with macros enabled (macros are how the workbook can calculate the unit score).

3) Enter your unit data in tabs 1 and 2. You will need to gather some information before you can fill out all the questions, for example what was your membership at the start of the year and membership at the end of the year.  Enter what you can, save the workbook for later, continue when you have more data to enter.

Tab 2 - Data Entry

4) After all your unit data is entered into the excel workbook, go to tab 3 and print out the unit results (make sure it will fit on 1 page of paper). Have your unit leaders sign where indicated on the scorecard.

Tab 3 - Scorecard (this is the real scorecard with your unit results!)

5) Send in an email to the District Commissioner with the following: 1) the excel workbook and a PDF of the scorecard you got from step 4, with the signatures.

6) If you do not receive a response within a reasonable amount of time (i.e., no later than 1 week) follow-up to verify that the District Commissioner got your submission.
